Sewing Pattern - Men's Elizabethan Garments, c. 1558-1605. The late Tutor period was a time of transition and uncertainty with 3 rulers in 11 years (not to mention Lady Jane Grey, who only ruled for 9 days), and the country endured violent switches from Protestant to Catholic. During the early part of this period the men's styles changed faster than woman's fashions. Gowns (PP53) declined in popularity, and a new emphasis was placed on the lower trunk. Even with the peascod belly doublet and trunk hose, men's styles could not compete with the sheer bulk of the women's gowns during Elizabeth's later reign. Late in the period men wore neck ruffs and later the falling collar, sometimes together. They also wore wrist ruffs and cuffs (PP90 - sized for women). Period Patterns number 58, Men's Elizabethan Garments, c. 1558-1605, supplies patterns for 7 doublets, 5 pairs of Trunkhose, 1 Venetians, 1 slops, a falling collar and cuffs (sizes 34-54). This pattern is complimented by PP43, PP53, PP90, PP92, and PP93. Great for Game of Thrones Costume, Eddard Stark, Sean Bean, Arryn, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Stark, Tully, Tyrell, Rickon Stark, Rodrik Cassel, Maester Luwin, Jory Cassel, Hodor, Ser Rodrik, Septa Mordane, Osha, Roose Bolton, , Loras Tyrell, Renly Baratheon, Jeor Mormont, Aemon Targaryen, Bowen Marsh, Benjen Stark, Ser Alliser Thorne, Yoren, Samwell Tarly, Qhorin Halfhand, Illyrio, Mopatis, Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Syrio Forel, Shae, Gendry, Jaqen H'ghar, Princess Myrcella, Prince Joffrey, Cersei Lannister, Tommen Baratheon, Pycelle, Lord Varys, Ser Barristan Selmy, Ser Ilyn, Hallyne, Dontos, Ygritte, The Lord of Bones, Galbart Glover , Gared, Jhiqui, Eddard Stark, Robert Baratheon, Tyrion Lannister, Catelyn Stark, Ser Jaime Lannister, Cersei Baratheon, Daenerys, Ser Jorah Mormont, Lord Petyr Baelish, Viserys Targaryen , Jon Snow, Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark,Theon Greyjoy, Sandor Clegane, Khal Drogo ... Padded coifs gave protection to the head, and were necessary for comfort under mail coifs and helmets. A simple collar or gorget gave additional protection to the neck. Sewing Pattern - Tunics, c. 650-1310 A.D. Chest sizes 16-54" included. Tunics were perhaps the first style to spread throughout Europe, worn from Ireland to Russia, Scandinavia to Byzantium to Spain. They were worn by almost everyone, peasant to noble, from Roman times through the 1300's. Many of the same variations are seen again and again, although a few appear to be limited to one sex or the other and woman's tunics or undertunics were always long. Class differences were shown by the fabric and decoration as well as the cut of the tunic. A nobleman at court might wear a long, full tunic of silk with jeweled embroidery, while working in the field, his poorest peasant would wear a short tunic of coarse wool . Men would usually wear hose (PP43 or PP101) with their tunics, but women didn't. In the first half of the 14th century the discovery that one could cut the armholes and sleeve caps curved, thus achieving a better fit, caused some change in the basic style. With this change the tunic continued to be worn, in a more or less modified form for another 200 years, especially among the lower classes. Pattern has 14 tunics for men, woman and children, with most parts being interchangeable. Chest sizes 16-54" included. Great for Game of Thrones Costume, Eddard Stark, Sean Bean, Arryn, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Stark, Tully, Tyrell, Rickon Stark, Rodrik Cassel, Maester Luwin, Jory Cassel, Osha, Roose Bolton, , Loras Tyrell, Renly Baratheon, Jeor Mormont, Aemon Targaryen, Bowen Marsh, Benjen Stark, Ser Alliser Thorne, Yoren, Samwell Tarly, Qhorin Halfhand, Illyrio, Mopatis, Pyat Pree, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Syrio Forel, Shae, Gendry, Jaqen H'ghar, Princess Myrcella, Prince Joffrey, Cersei Lannister, Tommen Baratheon, Pycelle, Lord Varys, Ser Barristan Selmy, Eddard Stark, Robert Baratheon, Ser Jorah Mormont, Jon Snow, Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark,Theon Greyjoy, Joffrey Baratheon, Sandor Clegane, Khal Drogo .... Sewing Pattern - Houpelandes, c. 1390-1460 A.D - Houpelandes were the last fashion which was found throughout Europe, as well as being the last unisex fashion. This comfortable style, flowing from the shoulder to the hem, apparently first developed in Italy around 1380, but by 1400 was found throughout Europe. Belted or loose, houpelandes were usually worn over a cotehardie (PP21 & PP23) ,a second houpelande with tight sleeves, a chemise (PP90) ,or shirt (PP43) and hose (PP43 or PP101). By 1450 there were many variations of this style, mostly of the sleeves, neckline. Women's houpelandes were always floor-length, although men's houpelandes varied from very short to very long. Only a few were limited by sex or geographical location. By 1475 houpelandes were no longer considered fashionable (although still occasionally seen). Men's cotehardies had developed into doublets, and the houpelande became a gown or robe often worn open down the front (PP43 and PP53). This pattern has 6 houpelandes for either sex, with sleeves & necklines interchangeable. The sleeves & cotehardie underneath are faked, but the fake sleeves can be left off and replaced by a cotehardie or a 2nd houpelande.

Medieval protection for the head used mainly from the 11th to the beginning of the 14th century. It consisted of a close-fitting mail hood extending down to cover the neck and parts of the shoulders, occasionally attached to the hauberk. The mail coif was made in the same manner at the mail hauberk or shirt. Often worn over a padded coif and under a helmet, however, in numerous medieval illuminated manuscripts, knights and soldiers are shown with just the mail coif protecting the head. The coif is made using the European 4 in 1 pattern of butted links. A chainmail coif is a traditional type of head covering that when worn, protects the almost all angles of the head, as well as the neck and the shoulders; only the face is left uncovered. Obviously, the head is an important part of the anatomy, which is why we offer such a variety of chainmail coifs. Anything but simple armor, we offer a number of coifs, all of which feature different options which ensure that we have the head protection that will adequately defend your cranium. A chainmail coif can be worn alone, or it can be combined with a helmet to provide a double dose of protection. If you're a knight, fighter, or warrior who understands that to lose one's head is to lose the battle literally, in this case then don't ride into battle with the protection of one of our chainmail coifs.
