Roman Sword

A Roman sword is a pretty cool thing. It conjures up images of ancient battlefields, fierce gladiator skirmishes, and long-forgotten conquests. But you know what would make a Roman sword even cooler? Knowing that its Latin name is “gladius.” Seriously, how cool a name is that? Compare the difference between stepping into battle shouting “Prepare to taste my sword!” versus “Prepare to taste my gladius!” Swords are great and all, but a gladius? Now that’s a weapon that means some business.

Of course, if you go around your next costume party pointing out your gladius to people, you’re probably going to get mostly confused looks. Maybe it’s best to play it safe and just stick with “sword,” as long as you know in your heart that you’re secretly carrying something that much cooler.
