Instead, it had risen up as a lich, a horrific being with undeniable magical power and the ability to channel fearful energies from the dread world that it had refused to enter. But, these adventurers were brave, mighty, capable. And… very quickly were also destroyed like all those who had come before them. And, from the darkness, you could only laugh at yet another victory.
