When we have some downtime at the office, we fall back on a couple of tried-and-true brain games to help keep us sharp. Chess and Future Archaeologists. Really just one game, ever since the official memo stating that flipping the chessboard and shouting ‘checkmate’ counts as a victory.

The rules of Future Archaeologists are simple. Pick an object, any object. Then take turns coming up with ideas about what somebody living 2000 years from now might say about it.

Let’s practice with this Egyptian Headpiece. To future archaeologists, the gold collar will imply that the person who wore this headdress was very wealthy. The snake on the crown, they will know from consulting their databanks, is the uraeus, which signifies that the wearer must have been the ruler of pre-unification ancient Egypt. And the tag on the inside stating that the headpiece is 100% polyester will throw them all for a loop!
