Those palace guards in London who aren’t supposed to laugh or have a visible reaction to anything have a pretty tough job. It isn’t the laughing part that seems difficult so much as having to resist rolling your eyes or sighing heavily or just shaking your head in disappointment as a steady stream of tourists strolls past you making the same goofy faces and lame jokes as the hundreds of tourists who strolled past yesterday. For a job that’s largely about standing still, that sounds absolutely exhausting.

The silver lining, of course, is the sweet gear you get to wear. Those crisp red jackets paired with deep black trousers and those strange, tall hats are recognized the world over, and for good reason. It’s an old-fashioned look, but it’s the kind of old-fashioned that stands the test of time. Just imagine if Buckingham Palace ever attempted to update that look. There would be protests in the streets!

Whether or not your little one is good at keeping completely still for hours on end (and judging by most kids we know, we’re guessing that’s a “not”), this snappy polyester costume is a sharp look for any little soldier. The bright red jacket is emblazoned with faux medals at the pocket and dressy details at the collar, cuffs, and shoulders, and also features gold-tone buttons and a white foam belt. The black pants have red ribbon side stripes and an elastic waist. And of course, there’s that all-important foam hat, held in place by an elastic chin strap. More than likely, your kid isn’t going to be able to maintain a straight face quite as long as the professionals, but fortunately smiles are more than welcome from these little palace guards.
