We’ve never understood where this menacing thing got its name. Yes, there were originally nine strips of leather attached to it but in no way do they resemble that of a cat’s tail. Last time we checked, the modern cat has a fluffy and adorable tail that never hurt anyone and when we checked the history books and artwork of the time this was used we found that cats had every amount of that fluffiness in their tails then as they do now. They might have even had a bit more.

We may never know why this scary thing is called what it is but we don’t feel like testing it to find out either and neither should you.
