We knew you’ve always wanted to serve your country, that’s always been a passion of yours, but… well, we never thought you’d enlist so young. Really, we thought there were regulations about that, but… well, what’s done is done. Now you’re officially a sailor. You’re not our little boy anymore. Technically, given your age, you still are our little boy, but there’s no point in arguing semantics now. Keep your bunk tidy. It’s okay if you get lost on your first day, but don’t be nervous. And remember to salute your officers, even when you don’t like what they tell you. Listen, just between us, don’t tell your mom we said anything, but, is there any way you can cancel? We kinda thought you were kidding when you told us you had enlisted, but… well, here we are. Wouldn’t you prefer to finish elementary school before you go?”

Boy, goodbyes are hard, huh? But when it’s time, it’s time. And what better send off for your newly enlisted sailor than his very own sailor costume? Sure, yes, the Navy probably will provide him with one, but this one will always be the one he got from you, as he waved from the deck, heading off into the Pacific for parts unknown. They sure do grow up fast, don’t they? But that’s their job, to set sail for their dreams. Now salute! Don’t let him see you cry, not now!
