Description
If you happened to be growing up in the time of the largest of The Crusades – the Twelfth or Thirteenth Centuries – your average life expectancy would have been between 30 and 45 years. There were just an awful lot of ways to die back then, from untreatable illnesses to poor nutrition to fighting all manners of wars and other conflicts. What we’re saying, basically, is that while an awkward, partial head covering might not seem like much of a safeguard out on the battlefield, if any slight opportunity to cheat death in this era presented itself, you had to pounce on it and not let it go.
Nowadays, we’ve got a slightly better handle on diet and diseases, and our defensive technology has advanced a fair bit beyond leather helmets and chainmail. That’s obviously all for the better. For one thing, it means you can wear this cool plastic crusader helmet as a simple bit of costumery and not have to rely on it to keep you alive on the battlefields. It’s fully adjustable and designed to fit the average adult head, so it should stay in place throughout the rigors of any costume party. It probably won’t be of much use if you wind up marching into a foreign land to wage a centuries-long holy war, but we’re betting the issue isn’t going to come up.
